Local Rules at Ould Newbury

  • Out of Bounds – Rule 18 (White stakes or lines) Located on the right of the 1st hole and left and beyond the greens on holes 2 & 9.
    • Relief Options
      • Stroke & Distance – Replay from previous spot (1 penalty stroke)
      • Optional Local Rule E-5 – Drop in fairway where ball was lost/OOB (2-stroke penalty)
  • Penalty Areas – Rule 17 (Red stakes or lines) Located on holes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9. On Hole 9, right of green is a red penalty area. Player may take stance relief and drop within 2 club lengths, no closer to hole.
    • Drop Circles
      • Hole 5 – Beyond green between red stakes
      • Hole 6 – Any penalty area
        (1-stroke penalty)
  • Maintenance Area – Hole 3 (Blue line – Play prohibited)
    • Use drop circle – 1-stroke penalty
    • Ball must be found or virtually certain
    • If found: may drop 2 club lengths from blue line
  • Vegetable Garden on Holes 7 & 8 – Mandatory relief. No penalty. Use drop circle
  • Drop Circles: Holes 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 – Players may drop or place ball
  • Flower Beds / Planting AreasMandatory relief, no penalty
    • Drop 1 club length from nearest relief, no closer to hole
    • Holes 2 & 9: Optional drop circle
  • Immovable Obstructions – Swing Relief Only
    • Free relief from:
      • Fences – Holes 1 & 2
      • Shed – Holes 6 & 7
      • Pump House – Holes 7 & 8
      • Railroad ties around bunker – Hole 8
  • Sprinkler Head Relief (2 x 2 Rule):
    • Free relief from sprinkler head or ground under repair when:
      • Within 2 club lengths of green
      • Within 2 club lengths of ball
      • Interferes with line of play
        • Drop 1 club length from nearest relief, no closer to hole, or move back until obstruction no longer affects stance/swing
